Rain, Rain, Go Away…: The Jarell Perry Music Video Shoot

What a weeeeeeeekkkkkkkkk. I mean that in every single way. Some good. Some bad. All life.

A couple of days ago I got an email from the Daily Bruin (nationally reknowned UCLA news paper) about wanting to do a story on me. That was quite exciting cause it’s like my first official press that I got to do. The interview and photoshoot was today, and all I can say is that it wasn’t too shabby. Hopefully I was a good interviewee and decent-looking subject for the photographer. haha. The article is suppose to come out next Wednesday, so look out for it if you’re around campus.

To get to the bulk of the the past couple of days, we started production on Jarell Perry’s music video for his new song, “Change Your Mind” featuring BC. Originally, the song features a rapper by the stage name of Slick D, but he couldn’t make it into town. Fortunately, BC came up with an awesome new rhyme and it all worked out.

Yesterday, we did the in-studio portion of the shoot against the green screen. I had twenty six shots to get done in four hours. Although, as usual, lighting took the longest, I think overall (at least I hope since I haven’t seen the imported footage yet) that this has been the best I’ve seen the green screen lit. We had a really great time and hopefully it’ll show in the final product.

Day 1

Finally, we arrive at today; the rainy, windy, ridiculousness that is Friday the 6th, 2009. This was the day that I was hoping, just hoping for a few hours of dry weather. Did we get it? Of course not… It was teased, oh yes, nature teased us with a bit of sunshine. For a brief moment in the middle of the afternoon, there was cloudless sky lit with the shining sun. Alas, when time finally came for the shoot, it not only rained, it POURED.

As we got the equipment cart ready to head out to location, even four umbrellas could not keep dry. By the time we arrived, we were all soaked and a tad disillusioned. Although the thought of postponing the shoot was somewhat tempting, I knew that the show must go on.

Concerned about whether or not we’d have enough people brave the weather to show up and be extras, one by one we got some dedicated fans/ friends of Jarell, not to mention some AMAZING freestyle and break dancers. I couldn’t begin to say how much we appreciated the help of Samahang Modern and ACA Hip Hop (the two best hip hop groups at UCLA). Jarell was awesome as usual along with his lovely girlfriend, Brianne. BC definitely did his thing as did the rest of kickass talent. Thanks to the great work of my cast and crew, we got done early. Now, I’m just aching to see the final product… which will still take the next couple of weeks to edit. Damn it’s great being a Director : D
